Bwindi and Mgahinga for the gorillas, Kibale for the chimpanzees, and the golden monkeys in the bamboo on the Rwandan side. A permit is one dated document for one named person, so the date is fixed first and every flight, lodge and mile of road is planned backwards from it.
One hour with a habituated family, the same for everybody. The walk to reach them takes anywhere from one to seven.
The guide moves at the pace of the slowest person, and porters can be hired at the trailhead.
June to September and December to February are drier. The forest is wet all year.
