Where most trips begin
Forest, crater lakes, the Nile and the highest concentration of primates in Africa. Half the world’s mountain gorillas live here.
The open plains
The Mara, Amboseli under Kilimanjaro, and Samburu in the dry north with five species found nowhere else on the trip.
Scale, and the coast
Serengeti, the Ngorongoro crater with its own resident herds, and Zanzibar for the week when nothing is scheduled.
The short, steep alternative
The same volcanic chain as Bwindi from the other side. Shorter drives, a steeper walk, and a considerably more expensive permit.
